Geometry and Form
During the pathway stage I began to look into shape and pattern, generating a visual rhythm from static images. From this would now like to explore geometry and form exploring both 2D and 3D. By the end of this project I plan to produce an innovative and individual piece of work, extending my knowledge by exploring both historical and contemporary influences such as Islamic patterns and artists like Thomas Sheibitz thus furthering my understanding and challenging my creative abilities using 3D materials and techniques.
During my time in Berlin i was inspired by a variety of historical and contemporary sources. When visiting the Permagon Museum there was a large exhibition on Islamic patterns and designs. I was also inspired by some of the architecture in the city including the Jewish Museum and memorial. I will also be taking inspiration from contemporary artists such as Matt Shlian and Henriette Van't Hoog.
In this project I intend to challenge my creative ability within both 2D and 3D formats using techniques such as, screen printing, CAD, photography, sculpture, etching, casting and plaster. I hope to explore a variety of materials including paper, wire, plastic and wood. I have ten weeks to generate and informed and individual final outcome which reflects my theme. I intend to explore this by beginning my research in 2D, making preliminary sketches, taking inspiration from artists and the environment around me then progressing into 3D and building from my 2D work.
Alongside my work I will keep a sketchbook/ journal In which I will write and sketch my ideas about my work and make critical decisions for my ongoing development therefore reviewing my work as I go on and developing it accordingly. In order to assess my final outcome I will be writing an evaluation detailing what I thought worked well within my project and how this has contributed to the success of my final outcome.
